There's a famous book, written by Alfred Watkins and published in 1925, called The Old Straight Track: Its Mounds, Beacons, Moats, Sites and Mark Stones.

It has become the source text for belief in ley lines but its original premise is that early people in the British Isles, back when these lands were mostly covered in primeval oak and beech forests, navigated by following long tracks across the landscape. These lines were marked by natural or human-made features such as burial mounds, cairns, beacons, standing stones etc.

Behind our tune is also the idea that ancient knowledge and the wisdom of our elders may also be an Old Straight Track to navigate by. Of course we may only be suggesting that because we're old.
